Circumcision

Adult circumcision performed safely for medical and personal reasons.

Circumcision

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin — the layer of skin that covers the head of the penis. It is one of the most common minor procedures worldwide, carried out for both medical and personal reasons. Dr. Anish Gupta performs safe, precise circumcision for boys and men in Delhi NCR, including modern stitchless (laser) techniques with a quick, comfortable recovery.

What is circumcision?

During circumcision, the foreskin is removed to fully expose the glans (head) of the penis. It is a day-care procedure — you go home the same day — performed under local or general anaesthesia depending on age and preference. In children it is carried out as part of paediatric urology care, gently and safely. When done by an experienced urologist, it is straightforward, safe and heals well.

Who needs circumcision?

Circumcision may be advised for medical reasons, or chosen for personal, religious or hygiene reasons. Common medical indications include:

  • Phimosis — a tight foreskin that cannot be pulled back
  • Paraphimosis — a retracted foreskin that becomes stuck and swollen (a medical emergency)
  • Recurrent balanitis — repeated infection or inflammation of the foreskin and glans
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections linked to a tight foreskin
  • Pain or tearing of the foreskin during erections or intercourse

How the procedure works

The procedure is quick and well tolerated. In simple terms:

  1. The area is cleaned and numbed with anaesthesia so you feel no pain.
  2. The foreskin is removed using a precise surgical or laser technique.
  3. The edges are sealed — modern laser and stitchless methods reduce bleeding and often need no removable stitches.
  4. A light dressing is applied, and you are able to go home the same day.

The whole procedure usually takes around 30 minutes.

Benefits of modern circumcision

  • Day-care procedure — home the same day
  • Laser/stitchless options mean less bleeding and less pain
  • Faster healing and an early return to routine
  • Improved hygiene and lower risk of foreskin infections
  • Resolves phimosis and related problems permanently

Recovery and aftercare

Mild swelling or discomfort for a few days is normal and settles with simple pain relief. Most men return to desk work within 2–3 days. You should keep the area clean and dry, wear comfortable underwear, and avoid strenuous activity, cycling and sexual activity until Dr. Anish Gupta confirms full healing — usually around four weeks. Clear aftercare instructions are provided.

Risks and safety

Circumcision is very safe in experienced hands. As with any procedure there are small risks — minor bleeding, swelling or infection — which are uncommon and easily managed. Following the aftercare advice keeps the risk to a minimum.

Frequently asked questions

Is circumcision painful?

The procedure itself is painless because the area is fully numbed with anaesthesia. Afterwards there may be mild discomfort for a few days, which is easily controlled with simple pain-relief medication.

How long does recovery take?

Most men return to light work within 2–3 days. Complete healing usually takes around four weeks, during which you should avoid strenuous activity and sexual activity until Dr. Anish Gupta advises it is safe.

Is laser circumcision better than the conventional method?

Laser and stitchless techniques generally mean less bleeding, less pain and quicker healing, and often avoid removable stitches. The best method for you is decided at consultation based on your anatomy and the reason for surgery.

Will circumcision affect sexual function?

Circumcision does not reduce sexual function or fertility. Once healing is complete, sensation and performance are not adversely affected, and many men find it improves hygiene and comfort.

Every treatment plan starts with a proper assessment, so you only get the care your condition actually needs — and if the honest answer is that you don't need a procedure, you'll hear that too.
